Massachusetts continues to demonstrate leadership in the arena of climate change. In May 2009, Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Ian A. Bowles named the Climate Change Adaptation Advisory Committee, created under the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2008. The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to help the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs make recommendations for the Commonwealth to adapt to sea level rise, warming temperatures, increased incidence of flood and drought and other effects of climate change. The Advisory Committee's report will be presented to the Legislature by December 31, 2009.
For more information, see the EEA press release.
Summary: "No matter what we do to limit greenhouse gases now, the climate is going to change. The question is: by how much, and can we adapt ecosystems so they're better able to stand the stresses and strains of climate disruption? Living on Earth's Bruce Gellerman hiked Massachusetts' Mt. Watatic with four experts working to prepare the forest to weather climate change."
